I've ungraded the stock tubes on my Alpha with Tele 12ax7's but found that they sounded a bit "dark". I then replaced them with Sylvania 5751's Gold Brand/gold pins. The soundstage is much deeper than the teles, the mids were incredible. Also, the noise floor dropped. The DAC sounded like a entirely different unit. I would highly recommend these tubes. But to answer the question, yes the 5751's is a suitable replacement. They have a lower gain than the 12ax7's, 70 vs 100. Hope this helps.
