Tubes Asylum Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ |

What a new course of study for me!
My prior question about adjusting bias is nothing compared with what I've been looking at.
Just for example..? And it doesn't help much with where I'm at right this minute, but an overview of the history of the vacuum tube. I'm sure Tesla is mixed up here somewhere but have not seen any specific references to him, just yet.
Somebody notices something and someone ELSE puts it together and adds a 2nd element to what WAS at the start a simple light bulb. Now? The start of a Diode. Than it gets weird with many inventions still with us within the first couple decades. Triode? Diode? Pentode? Some future Star Trek fan came up with BEAM Tetrode.....1935? Today? 6L6 continues. All extensions of a few fairly simple principles. Many familiar names. Edison? DeForest? Mullard? And a host of others.
This kind of stuff fascinates me. 'Where does stuff come from'....and more important, in some ways...'where is it going'?......
Too much is never enough
