Tube Handling

I see lots of videos of tube rollers and other tube folks just picking up tubes and installing and wiggling them into or OUT of the socket.

In my years of wafer fabrication experience, I was accustomed to WEARING GLOVES......usually neoprene or Latex when IN THE FAB.

When I worked on steppers, which used VERY intense mercury vapor arc lamps, you HAD to clean them with Alcohol (100%) at install. The ONE KW lamps get incredibly hot. If they burst, it is QUITE a toxic mess....not to meniton the NOISE which will reallly get your attention.

If I owned a tube amp? I would NEVER handle a tube with my bare hands. They don't get nearly as hot as the lamps used in photolithography gear, but the envelop IS fairly thin and skin oils WILL embrittle such over time. I doubt a tube lasts long enough....even the cooler running input stuff, but I will take NO chances.

Any other Obsessives out there?
Too much is never enough
