Because in real world applications it can work well and sound good. Plus, it is cheap and easy to buy because several companies still make it, so it is a sustainable choice for new designs.
Even without negative feedback the nonlinearity really only shows up if you try and get maximum output with it. With small signals it is linear enough. I think it is better to judge an amplifier as a whole, rather than try and evaluate how it may sound based on internet opinions of how the individual components may sound.
