Could very well be. Mine started life as a PV8 before being modded but retains its original chassis/board design. I don't know if that's the same as yours which I'm assuming was born a PV12.Being a tube novice, I talked to people and read everything I could find before I ever tried changing a tube. They all said it's ok, even probably necessary, to rock the tube gently but I guess that's not always true.
FWIW, I asked my tech if it's possible to make it easier to remove the tubes. The only thing he suggested is to try cleaning the sockets. Also, as Elektron suggested, I will in the future try to hold the socket base steady.
