Hi, good luck with your search and there are some good points in the replies so far. As far as your question about wattage differences, I run a VAC Ren 30 (30 watts) for my tweeter/mid unit and Spectron Digital 1 (500 Watt into 4 Ohms!) for the woofers, and I must tell you that the volume level all depends on the input sensitivity and amp gain. My VAC has a very high input sensitivity, and if run straight, actually sounds louder at a given volume setting than my Spectron. Of course, it will run out of steam much earlier, though.
Unfortunately, I do agree with the reply that unless your woofers are crossed over at around 100 Hz or less, you probably won't get a good seamless sound. My own speakers were designed with active crossover, and I am able to adjust my crossover point. I use 100 Hz with 18db right now, and any time I go up, even to 150 Hz, I hear a noticeable incoherence in midrange. your speakers likely has much higher crossover than this.
If you must do this (Believe me I know how tempting it is to use tubes on top and solid state for bass), there are ways to lessen the incoherency, such as trying different speaker cables, power cords, interconnects, cones, feet, different tubes to "match" the sound of 2 amps, but it'll likely not result in a perfect match and cost you a bundle of money and frustration in the meantime.
Best of luck to you.
