H, Saurav:Heybrook has been around for 15-20 years, a British manufacturer. They were acquired by Audio Group International about 2 years ago, who also builds JPW and Quayle loudspeakers, and they are one of the largest OEM manufacturers of cabinetry and vinyl-wrap loudspeakers for many brands. AGI has a 100,000 square foot manufacturing facility in the U.K.
The new HB series features CAD-CAM machined contoured and texturized front baffles, kevlar woofers, vinyl wrap cabinets, with a more impactive bass and extended treble than the "traditional" Heybrook models, like the wood-veneered Heylette and Heylios. The Duet and Octet feature the Audax super tweeter, gas-filled piezo gold foil, flat to 25KHz, excellent ambience and upper harmonic structure.
Here are some specs on the new HB series:HB1 2-way mini-monitor 6 ohms 50 rms 75 peak 90dB 55-20K $ 445
HB2 2-way monitor 6 ohms 60 90 90dB 45-20K $ 595
HB3 2-way floorstander 6 ohms 60 90 90dB 40-20K $ 795
HB4 3-way floorstander 6 ohms 75 100 90dB 35-20K $1,195Tube-friendly with 6 ohm impedance and 90dB sensitivity (Reynaud Twin Mk 2 is 4ohms and 90dB).
The new HB series was put into production just prior to the switch to May Audio in October of 2000, I don't know if any reviews have been published on the HB series or not.
I have listened to all four of the new HB series models, they are pretty good at the price, mate well with less expensive equipment, they are forgiving of gritty front end, good presence for popular and rock and roll music, slight upper mid-bass warmth if amp doesn't have good damping characteristics.
Hope this helps, Randy Bankert
