Replacement of Paradigm Compact Monitors

I own a pair of Paradigm Compact Monitors, sort of the predecessor of the current Studio/20. They're all wood, very well built and sound great, but are larger then I'd like for the living room of my new house (13'x17'x 8.5'). To get them to really sing I need to play them louder than wife or child cares for.
Would two small fronts (e.g., NHT SuperZero, PSB Alpha Mini or one of the Axiom Millenia) and sub give me roughly the same sound quality as my Paradigms? Any other suggested systems?
