Thanks for the input on the Bryston/B&W combo. I'd like to think that there are amp/pre-amp pairs that mate better with the CDM-1NTs. I had high expectations for the B&Ws when I walked in the sound room and quickly couldn't believe my ears. The sound was simply awful. And this was using the Warner remastered CD of Dire Straits *Brothers in Arms* and the Rebecca Pidgeon *The Raven* CD. I consider these to be quality recordings. Now, the Pioneer Elite DV-38A is not the ideal front-end component for such a demo. As a DVD player, it is good, but one could certainly do better with a comparably priced dedicated CD player. Also, recall that I am not sure what was being used for interconnects and speaker wire. After ruling out the B&Ws, I picked up a pair of Totem Arro floorstanders at another store. These sounded great in the store when paired with a Classe CDP .3 CD player and a Classe integrated amp (did not catch the model number). The Arros project an incredible level of detail. I bought the demo pair and have them mated with an NAD C 370 integrated amp and a Sony SCD-777ES SACD/CD player. For now, I am using Monster RCA interconnects and speaker wire, which I plan on replacing in time. In any event, this system is quite transparent. It does bring out the flaws in recordings, so I imagine some might consider the Arros to be bright. However, the flaws are inherent in the recordings, and I don't want a warmer speaker that might color the sound. For a small speaker, the Arros create an incredible soundstage. I've never heard a speaker that is so accurate with percussion. There is an incredible presence with cymbals, for example.
