Chants d'Auvergne and Flicka!

The conductor on that recording is Antonio de Almeida (Santos). He was something of a mentor to Ms. von Stade. Believe it or not, he was born in Paris, and his Godfather was... Arthur Rubinstein.

I was marveling at how much "Pull" one has to have, to have one's baby Baptized in Notre Dame Cathedral with Arthur Rubinstein as a Godfather. But one of my sisters had a kid who studied Theology at a high level, and my sister told me that he understanding was that as long as one Godparent was a Catholic in good standing, in the interest of peace in mixed marriages or extended families, the other godparent only has to be a good person with some connection to the family.

Antonio de Almeida was accepted to study Nuclear Physics, IIRC, at MIT; but he got sucked into music and transferred to Yale, where his mentor was Hindemith, and how do you like them apples???

amb,

john

PS: That's an AMAZING track as far as Sound Quality; please post your impressions. jm
