Almost any "$1000 pair" speaker set that I can think of benefits from a subwoofer system and an assortment of room treatments. So that's a total "speaker system" price of, maybe, $3000 or so? MY current "budget speaker" system would never sound nearly as good, to me, without those added costs.

One of the only "$1000 pair" speaker sets that I know of that doesn't actually require an added subwoofer system of some sort is the Direct Acoustics Silent Speaker II. It truly does go down low enough on it's own but, as one reviewer noted, an expensive amplifier with a high damping factor might be required for optimal bass performance. Also, the Silent Speakers really prefer larger rooms - I'd say 10' x 15' x 8' minimum. Otherwise, their bass power can seem overwhelming. Unless, of course, you cross them over at speaker level to a separate subwoofer system for better bass control. But then, they cease to be a simple "$1000 speaker system" and quickly become a $1500 - $2000 one instead.

That said, I think you might like the sound of the "Made in USA" Silent Speakers because they have a warm tonal balance. You have previously indicated that you might prefer such a sound.
