Quad makes both electrotstatic speakers (ESL series) and regular box-like dynamic speakers, the kind you are most used to. Quad was/is the leader in ESL speakers. That is where you see the most comparisons. New ESLs are expensive. Old ESL's are tempremental. Don't buy electrostats as your first audiophile set.Quad makes good, low-priced (by audiophile standards) dynamic speakers, starting with small mini-monitors Quad 11L and working all the way up to a 2.5-way floorstander, the Quad 22L. These speakers have a reputation for being accurate and detailed and affordable. You may or may not like that sound. But they are all really nice speakers for a beginning not dirt-poor music lover.
