That is a bad idea because the other amplifier's output circut in parallel with the speakers presents an incorrect load to the operating amplifier. Damage to operating amplifier could occur. Instead, connect the Audio Out jacks on the back of the TV to the Tuner inputs of your Hi-Fi stereo amplifier. Connect the DVD player outputs to the Auxiliary inputs of your Hi-fi stereo amplifier. The Hi-fi stereo amplifier now controls sound to the pair of speakers & the TV remote still controls mute. You still have normal stereo music source selection. If you require greater input jack capability for your Hi-Fi stereo amplifier, a local Radio Shack has input expander switch boxes from 3-input Audio to 12-input A/V boxes with remote control.
