I've just heard the Harbeth Monitor 30 and I believe I've finally found a speaker that is smooth enough for my taste. However, the price of these is pretty outrageous and the speaker also can occasionally sound chesty or boxy with some congestion in the lower mids....and of course there is the lack of deep bass. No matter...what I am wondering about is the Harbeth vs the Spendor models I've listed above. If anyone has direct experience with comparing any of these units, I would be VERY interested to hear your impressions. If the Spendor is warmer or more laid back, bring them on. I'm hoping I can find a smooth speaker and get out of this under $1000 used. The Monitor 30 is like velvet, though. I imagine that Excel tweeter is hard to beat. Speaking of which...does anyone know if the Spendors use that tweeter?
