Re: Your opinion on Jamo Concert 8

I have owned the Concert 8, now called D830, for over 6 years. I then replaced it with the floor stander version, D870 which I used for a couple of years. Currently I use the B&W 804S for my music system with the Jamo's relegated to the home theatre system.

The D830 is very well built and finished to beautiful standard. I have owned both the cherry and light oak finish, both look great.

In short the D830 was a phenomenal bookshelf loudspeaker for it's day. Very transparent, incredibly deep bass for modest size, very fast coherent sound, great imaging.
Unfortunately it is also balanced a little bit bright with a very small amount of sheen noticed with on some music in the upper mids. The mid range is also slightly recessed and there is a noticeable drop in the upper bass energy.

In comparison the Jamo D870 has cleaner mid range, overall better balanced top to bottem, but slower bass.
Interestly the B&W804S has similiar sound balance to D830 in that it is slightly lean with a recessed mid, but in every respect is a step up from the D830 - better filled in bass, cleaner mids and treble, and even better imaging.

In conclusion, I believe the D830 gives a taste of a high end monitor, but is off the pace in comparison to the very best today.

BTW, the D870/D830 make a great home theatre loudspeaker system.
