I recently heard these new iterations of the Antals at a local shop being driven by a 2a3 push/pull integrated rated @16w/ch (by the manufacturer - real world would be 10w max. based on the tube and design of the amp).It was nothing short of stunning. I would have to say that they did seem just a "tad" strident however, I just think that's a characteristic of Triangle.
I heard incredible imaging and stage width a good 4 feet outside and behind the outer edge of the speaker - I was completely thrown and in disbelief that these Antals could sound so good. So much so that I returned the next day with my beloved Paradigm Ref 20 v.2's in tow.
While the ref 20's did an admirable job, detail, imaging was quite close - the soundstage was no where near the width of the Antals. I wasn't prepared to purchase the Antals at the time but it launched me on to a floorstander shopping frenzy.
Another thing I noted for myself was that I do tend to favor some sort of metallic tweeter - the air about the presentation with the Antals was also very very nice.I'd say, under 2k, the Antals are very tough to beat. The shop's rig is full of serious gear into the multi-thousands with their reference rig consisting of Grand Utopias being driven by Mastersound's 845 triode based integrated.
Even with the multi-thousand rig right there - I leaned towards the Triangle - 2a3 rig, not only because of price but it's simplicity as well.
I might have rolled the input tubes or changed cables to "soften" up the top just a tad but overall the sound was quite impressive.
I'm currently running VSA vr-2's...and I'm really enjoying these - they are extremely dynamic contrary to some opinions and do a very good disappearing act.
The bass and output levels of these lo-mid eff 87db/w speakers is surprisingly stunning on my 40w el34 push/pull amp. I actually think that the amp is the bottleneck in my system at the moment preventing the same width of stage that the Triangles gave. Reason I say this is that digital sources seem to sound similar to eachother. That's another story however.
The Triangles are probably next on my "grocery" list.
Congrats on the trade!
