I asked my dealer this question last week and was told 4 - 5 weeks for standard finishes. Custom finishes can be longer depending on the material chosen and its availability.I've opted to have my cabinet maker send Vandersteen material to match the other woodwork in the room. No idea how much time that's going to add to the order, but I'm guessing 2 months total if I'm really lucky.
4 - 5 months is complete BS and simply was simply chosen by an audiogon seller to move his speakers.
FWIW I would NEVER buy a pair of 5s used unless I had the ability to inspect them first and then verify that they were correctly packed. It's a seriously heavy and bulky item which will only survive freight if correctly packed.
