Hi,
I have paradigm S8's with a 2 channel setup (normal 2 channel preamp/and monoblocks) and wish to integrate a subwoofer. There are two ways i can do this.1) Let the s8's roll off naturally and let them run full range, .... tune in the subwoofer to carry the bottom octaves i.e. 15Hz-41Hz?? or should i go higher to overlap where the s8's bottom out)...
2) use an x30 active external x over and run the s8's through the 50Hz (vs the 80 or 120 hz) high pass output and dial in the subwoofer to fill in a little more i.e. 15/20Hz to 50 or 60Hz).....
Which is more appropriate for the s8's "full range" (freq 41hz-20khz)
just so you know,
I have powerful 500wpc mcintosh MC501 monoblocks so i'm not too concerned about "relieving" the amps of the lower octaves (and therefore less current demand)..i was wondering if relieving the S8's of the Lower few octaves (i.e. under where they "roll off") would relieve them a bit and open up their midrange/high bass..i.e. if I use option #2....Or is the midrange clarity not effected by the way their x overs are set up..
The downside in #2 as i see it is that i'm using more interconnects...an external x over...i.e. more stuff in the equation......Hopefully you'll understand this question...i think i made it more complicated than intended..could you give me some advice??
thanks...
