there's a big difference between inputs, outputs and a "loop".

In a loop configuration, when you jumper the output to the input, the output is fed right back into the input when you push in the EPL or tape monitor switch. Likewise, whatever is connected to that loop (assuming it has inputs, outputs and is connectd correctly)is fed right back into the circuit.

Most modern receivers do offer an output, but it's a one way ticket to some external recording device. The corrosponding input must be selected via the input selector on the front. ...major, major difference.

Simply put, unless he has a button on the front labelled "tape monitor", he's boned.
