How delicate are planar transducers

Pure ribbon tweeters are vulnerable to a strong wind or any low frequency that gets through a crossover. The aluminum ribbon has to be redone and they can even snap at times. Are planar transducer ribbons also unforgivingly fragile; for instance, the Bohlender Graebener RD series? The idea of a planar transducer without an open baffle and with ease of active crossover, perhaps only first order at 200 hz and the simplicity appeals to me. I understand they need a notch filter at 5khz which has to be passive because the enormous inductance in a notch filter before final amplification would have to be so enormous that it could only be done with the secondary of a neon sign transformer. For this reason I do not mind a passive notch filter.
