Re: Auditioning Von Schweikert VR4SR-II's tomorrow

I had the same takeaway as Ozzy, the VR4SR mk1 pretty much set off my oh-humm alarm immediately and couldn’t engage or hold my attention. They're several notches towards the warmer, laidback, darker, mellow side with a more relax, recessed presentation than the Maggie 3.6’s. Obviously they kick harder and go lower because of the cones, but the lows felt too full figured, bloated or not taught enough. I’ve read they need to loaded with lead and spiked to control the boomy bass, so who knows. So bring some aggressive stuff along to see for yourself and post your follow-up impressions. I used the “Battlescene” from the Gladiator or O’ Fortuna as brute force test and music of varying pace like (Basie, Krall, and Norah) for PRAT.

If your consider dumping the maggies for fully enclosed, cone driver speaker, check out the Devore line, particularly the Devore Silverbacks with a SET.

Believe what your ears say - not hearsay.
