Hello there Owen here from blighty - trusty old MF speakers you have there my man - look after them, and they'll look after you if you know what I mean...They sound absolutely Fab with GOOD ss and better with Tubes...
Remember they also need a light(ish) non resonant stand (spikes bottom blutak top) to sound thier best and IMO they like Solid Core LS cables...
They were actually designed by Martin Colloms (when he did design as his day job), and produced by Musical Fidelity in the UK. MF is owned by Anthony Michaelson (familiar name.. it should be from Michaelson - Austin tube amps..) and is still trading strongly.
I have owned MF gear in the past - any troubles, I contacted the factory in wembley, and they would sort it out (for a fee of course).
The actual crossover should only have 1 inductor, 1 cap (and I think 1 resistor) - the Inductor uses OFC cabling and is aircored - so best left, and the cap will be an early polyprop foil design - this may be getting past its sell by date, but I doubt it.
A comparable design is the Epos E14 - designed in the same 'minimalist school' and having a similar sound.
So, try snail mail to the factory - they will probably be glad to help out..
The looseness in the sound may be caused by settling of the wadding inside the cabinet - but you would see that through the main driver...........
Any more of these surfacing this week (3rd query I've answered)..Owen
