"What do we do with [live music broadcasts on] the Internet? We delay them! You can have it later, when it fits into your work day. F*ck it. I want it live!"Although I strongly agree with Townshend's sentiments, I think the use of ProTools and Auto Tune in live performance has been a far bigger problem. Maybe due to the fact this processing (Auto Tune) is conspicuously absent in Who performances, maybe Townshend hasn't been exposed to what I think has killed music far worse than the mere storage on digital media.
My personal hope is that Pete Townshend's recent work may inspire other musicians to approach their craft at a higher standard. The crisis is that technology and the recent acceptance of mediocrity have stifled the essence of musical expression, and by his recent examples, maybe those who have not realized the importance of this element in music may suddenly get hit with what it's really all about. And maybe light the flame of passion.
Just one final comment- Go Pete, go!!!
