I finally got round to thinking about the question of which Revelators albums I thought were good, and realised thta apart from the live one I only have The Revelators, and that it is a very good record.
But above that, and its just my taste, I would recommend Bakelite RAdio Volume 3.
Now Bakelite RAdio is the latest name Camelleri has used, and Volume 3 is their second record. It seems he got a lot of stick for calling the first record Volume 2...
This is a softer sounding disc, with a lot of pedal steel, but, on some tracks at least, that rolling rock and roll that Dylan had in 1965. Blue Car especially to me sounds like a lost track that could sit alongside Desolation ow et al. Who is Greg Brown, who wrote it? I should probably know, but its the sound of it that I am talking about.
The album finishes with JJ Cale's End Of The Line.
I am fishing for a clue to th sound of this... OK, imagine if the band of Highway 61 had been Dire Straits, a looser more beatnik Dire Straits, or at least Knopfler playing guitar.
Its kind of in that area.
