I was channel hopping early this morning waiting for the news and on Turner Classic Movies they were having a day of Elvis films.
I hit it in the middle of Live A Little, Love A Little (1968) and Elvis in a tight high buttoned silver grey suit was doing a number called The Edge Of Reality ("she sits there tormenting me from the edge of reality") and it really reminded me of early Morrison... the neat dressing, the slightly fleshy face, the lyrics. Cheesier backing, way beyond anything even on Soft Parade, but maybe Jim would have suited the Vegas-Freudian approach as he got older.
In this contemporary photo, ever media savvy Jim throws himself into the front rows of screaming girls knowing they will catch him...
