HE POLICE RUMORED TO BE REUNITING THIS YEARNo one's going on the record just yet, but there's been increased chatter lately about a possible reunion for the Police. A rumor in the U.K. says that singer-bassist Sting, guitarist Andy Summers, and drummer Stewart Copeland will join forces to mark the band's 30th anniversary. Shows could take place in the U.K. this summer, and an announcement could be coming very soon.
The band split up in 1984, and they've only played together a few times since, including three dates on Amnesty International's Conspiracy Of Hope tour in 1986; at Sting's wedding to Trudie Styler in 1992; and at the group's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003.
Summers told us that he and Copeland are willing, but that it's up to Sting: "It's playing itself out the way it's supposed to. Sting will have to make that decision, you know? I mean, Stewart and I will certainly do it. For my part, I cannot sit around waiting for the phone to ring -- I have to get on with the things that I'm doing in my own life, you know? Otherwise, you're just sort of bathing in nostalgia and wishing for something that may or may never happen. If it happens, of course, we will dust off the old guitars and off we go, you know?"
Maybe Mr. Snakeoil will hold one with Stewart Copeland and Sting's daughter!!!!
