Its not often, even having worked in the music business, that you know you are watching someone very special.
I remember when I was mmm possibly 14 or maybe just turned 15 going to see Pink Floyd in a pub in east London and on the bus a guy from the support band asked me if I knew where the place was (curiously he had his pet piglet with him) and in exchange for showing him I got guest listed and met PF in passing.
Back then Syd was still very much ON, although I guess I maybe hit a good night and the simple truth he was electric. Now he's just a fringe figure in the story of Dark Side Of The Moon, but isn't he the single inspiration for that record?
Syd opened the door that PF later walked through which is not to dismiss what the rest did but without him there wouldn't have been a band (in my opinion).
