..."Mama Mia" was the first one built around a pop/rock group's songs and was hugely successful. IIRC, two members of Abba were invlved in the production.Others with similar music as the theme failed - like "Good Vibrations" with the Beach Boys' music.
Until now - "Jersey Boys" based on the Four Seasons is a huge hit.
Abba started it all.
