Those bands remained strong and continued to sellout concert halls and sold as many more records after the departure of the person you name as before. The Byrds sold far more records after Gene left. He was only sporadically in the band for MTM.

Moby Grape was never heard from again, once SS left fell, as if they had not already fallen, into oblivion. He was the band.
