Not the Kirk album from 65 (?) but the post Pop Group band fronted (?) by Gareth sager out of Bristol who had Neneh Cherry singing for a while.
They had TOTAL attitude in that post punk era and recorded with Don Cherry.
Numbers could be wholing free jazz or impressionistic solo piano.
A friend used to do their live sound and he said once that they would sound check and then deliberately walk around the stage randomly playing instruments no one could here until inspiration took them and out of nowhere would come the best music you had heard for maybe 20 minutes and then it would just stop and they would be looking around the stage for it again until either they found it or the set finished. OK, I made up thta last part but that WAS how they were.
If you can find samples, and its tricky to get much, try Go Go Go their (I seem to remember) first single. If you happen across the CD Knee Deep In Hits (yuck yuck yuck) then take a listen to how music might have been. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
