Maria Muldauer: "Heart of Mine"

I must admit: Until recently, the only thing I knew about Maria Muldaur was that incredibly sexy voice cooing "Midnight at the Oasis" back in the '70s. On a lark, I decided to listen to "Heart of Mine" at a local Barnes and Noble. Wow! The concept is certainly not new--covering the songs of Bob Dylan--but her approach is quite unique, lending a bluesy/jazzy swing to most of the songs. And, for the most part, she goes for some left-field song choices: "Buckets of Rain," "To Be Alone With You," "Make You Feel My Love," "Golden Loom." Overall, I like the album a lot. God, that voice is sexy!!! It makes Diana Krall sound like Roseanne Barr singing the National Anthem. OK, not quite, but for me it redefines the word "sultry." The recording quality--as you'd expect from a Telarc release--is top-notch. Definitely demo quality. Highly recommended!
