I agree: Lynne's production can be over-the-top at times (witness a lot of his later ELO productions), but generaly he has a good feel for sonics, and his flourishes aren't usually overwhelming in the same way I feel, say, Daniel Lanois' productions sometimes are. And, I think, he's gotten better as he's gotten older. Wish I could say the same thing about myself . . . . :)
