Martha and the Muffins hit it pretty big here in Canada back around 1980 with their first single "Echo Beach" and a second single "Paint By Numbers Heart" from the album Metro Music (Dindisc/Virgin). They made a couple of quite obscure releases after that, "Trance and Dance" ('80) and "This Is the Ice Age"('81), the latter featuring Daniel Lanois and his brother Bob as well. In 1983 came "Danseparc" (also produced by Daniel Lanois) which was a bit less obscure and a bit more radio-friendly. The single "Danseparc" even had a little bit of a Chrissie Hynde sound to it. By 1984 the band came out with "Mystery Walk" (once again produced by Daniel Lanois) which was a bit more funky in the vein of what the Talking Heads were doing at the time and may have even featured some of the same session musicians. A very good album. By 1986, the band just started to call themselves "M+M" (for Mark and Martha who were pretty much the only original members at that time). In that year they released "The World Is A Ball" (not produced by DL!!!) which continued in the same funky-Talking Heads vein. I thought the band had ended their recording but I just found out today that a couple more releases came out since. A great band that deserves a little ressurection in my opinion. For more detailed info:
