I'm not offended in the least. Neil is fairly crude as guitar players go but despite his lack of technique he is fun to listen to.
The big plus for Neil Young is that he is a good songwriter who has managed to keep producing good to excellent albums (along with a few really lame ones) over a long career. Counting the other rock musicians who fall into this category is not going to cause anyone to run out of fingers.
Stills, on the other hand, is a good guitarist but good guitarists are a dime a dozen these days. His better songwriting will barely fill a single LP or a short CD. I like Buffalo Springfield, CS & N, CSN & Y and even the Stills/Young band (definite notch down) but the Stills solo albums - I'll pass.
I don't know where Duilawyer's characterization of Young being an unreliable flake comes from. As far as I know he doesn't have a reputation for missing shows, he has managed a long career, has been with the same woman for decades and seems to be doing a good job of being a father to his kids. Given the number of rich, fat, self-indulgent, artistically unproducive peers who seem like 60 year-old arrested adolescents I think he 's doing okay.
