I've looked at the trial versions of CATraxx, CD Trustee and Collectorz.com. They all interrogate CDDB which is really unsatisfactory for Classical. For CDs where Title and Artist are the only important criteria (as with most non-classical), these programs are great. Trouble is, CDDB can't cope with the additional important classical criteria eg Composer, Conductor, Soloist and Orchestra. Their "Artist" box will have one of these, but with no consistancy. So, if you enter 3 CDs featuring Chopin, and look at the portflio of your collection, you may well find only 1 under Chopin, but also 1 shown as Pollini and the third as LA Philly. They really have ballsed it up! It would be nice if they were to tackle the problem and have more principal fields to get round this problem.
The response from CD Trustee for example (who are very helpful, by the way) is that you should duplicate entries and then edit them so that, for example, you force Chopin into the Artist box and relegate the other information into Notes.
Of these 3 programs, I prefer CD Trustee. It looks better and is nicer to use, but all will produce the same garbled information with a classical collection. The same applies with non-classical Collections, where they also make a dog's dinner of the data. Pity really as there's such a wonderful wealth of information available by just slipping your CDs into your CD ROM drawer.
