Lots of great jazz recs. below.As for Blues, my fave is Little Walter. Get the latest reiss. on Chess/MCA. Muddy Waters is also a classic, I have his 3 CD set. Elmore James, another great, Rhino had a super compilation of his stuff. Chess?MCA had a two disc compilation of various singers out that's very good. Mostly 50-70s reissues of electric blues. If you like Jimi Hendrix, I do, you might consider getting his "Blues" album. If you want early Blues, it's Robert Johnson's two disc set on Sony.
After all that, if I had to pick just one disc, it would be Little Walter.
Now folk is a whole nother story. I could go into that bigtime as well. My fave there is folk rock group Pentangle. Get their first album "Pentangle". It was an audiophile specialty on vinyl many long moons ago.
