Jonny King: Notes From the Underground & In From The Cold

I recently revisited these two sessions. I then relaized why I liked Jonny King so much. Really good writing, really good arrangements and great great playing. Jonny did a follow-up called Melting Pot which for some reason I never picked up. In From the Cold was Jonny's first lead date and it was remarkably mature for a first time outing. Jonny is a very good pianist and probably an even better writer. Both are these sessions are must haves for anyone interested if the great contemporary jazz music being played today. Right out of the tradition. Notes From The Unbderground has that late sixties Blue Note sound with Steve Nelson and Steve Wilson ripping it up. Billy Hart drops bombs throughout!
