Home Music Lane

It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

Re: Please recommend a jazz and blue album

Besides Kind of Blue those 'other guys' mentioned (who are they, anyway?), check the Coltrane thread above for my recs there. Go to the Fantasy Jazz link, and check out the Prestige 50th Anniversary reissues, as well as the Riverside K2 remasters. All sound excellent (and are jazz classics), but I would specifically recommend Kenny Dorham, 'Quiet Kenny' and Art Pepper, '...Meets The Rhthym Section'.

Folk, by all means grab Tony Rice Unit's 'Unit of Measure'.

David Grisman's Tone Poems series is excellent as well if you like stringed instruments. The Pizza Tapes, done with Jerry Garcia is wonderful, if a bit informal.

Rounder label stuff is consistently excellent sonically also. For a good little box set, try the Roots Music set, four cd's, excellent sound and variety, and reasonable.
