It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

Re: Branford Marsalis in Jazz Times

I have to agree with Branford generally on the banning of guitarist. There are only a handful whose tone I can tolerate for any extended period of time,: Kevin Eubanks, Kenny Burrell, and the late Danny Gatton. Gatton played jazz on occassion, but that wasn't his only contribution. A true talent. There are many, many, technically talented jazz guitarist, but their tones just grate upon me.

I have not read the article, but I will. What was said about Redman and Potter? Potter, I don't believe I have heard. I just saw Redman with his new Elastic Band last month. I must say it was different, but not as offensive as I would have thought considering there were electronics on stage. Branford's Buckshot LeFunque band is along the same lines, though a little more earthy than Redman's band.

The things I have heard Branford say regarding the music is much more tolerable than the opinions of his brother, Wynton. Branford at least has had the decency to elaborate on the foundations of his opinions. Rather than leave you feeling like the rube off the cabbage truck because you don't have a Phd in musicology. I think Branford does a better job of indentifying with listeners to the music than does Wynton.

I look forward to reading your response or getting a copy of the article.
