I just had a lot of fun reading the "Before and After" feature in the new Jazz Times magazine, featuring Branford Marsalis. Leave it to Branford - he's opinionated and outspoken enough to speak his mind. He takes a few inadvertent (at least they seemed inadvertent)jabs at Mike Brecker, Joshua Redman, James Carter, Chris Potter, among others. He states that all guitarists should be banned from jazz recordings (exiled in perpetuity to Foxwoods commercials!!!) and displays a pretty keen insight into some of the forces that shape jazz, both musical and economical. He recognized Don Byas, but missed Dexter Gordon though. Pretty good reading.
