Of course "Summertime" is a song from "Porgy and Bess," Gershwin's "serious" opera. (He wrote a musical called "Crazy for You" which is a farce; but the music is great.)There's a Louis Armstrong/Ella Fitzgerald recording of all of the songs from Porgy and Bess that's a good listen, from two outstanding interpreters. Armstrong had a gravel voice, but, despite that, he's a musician and then some and, as a result, can sing circles around any number of more pleasant-sounding vocalists. As a horn player . . . well he's The Man.
This was orginally released on vinyl; I have a CD re-release.
