The Many Faced Gershwin

I remember loving the Gershwin music from the movie "Manhattan" staring Woody Allen. Afterwards I saw that the Hollywood Bowl had a Gershwin concert so I bought some tickets. I had the Classic Music series at Hollywood Bowl for 10 years & was use to seeing people eat chicken & drink fine wine. When I got to the Gershwin concert everyone was eating sandwishes & drinking beer. There was even a man selling Peanuts & "Glow-Hops" (glow in the dark head bands)like I was at a base ball game. Then a fat lady came out & started singing "Scat" jazz which was not in the movie. For her encore she said "I don't know any more Gershwin, but here is a song everyone knows" & she sang "Where are the Clowns". As I was walking out from the concert most people where humming "Where are the Clowns". I thought "I went to hear 'An American in Paris' & got 'Scat' jazz & came out singing 'Where are the Clowns'". What a bizzarre evening :) I had to tell one of my favorite stories & ask "What type of Gershwin are you looking for?" 1. Classical, "Scat", Ballard Gershwin?
