Home Music Lane

It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

<<Note to those who like the SFO Mahler CDs>>

In poking around the hi-rez forum, and reading a few news snippets, I found that these recordings were made under the Limited Pressing clause, which puts a cap of 10,000 units on the proceedings.

If SFS Media were to press even 1 additional unit, the wages due to the musicians would retroactively increase to the full wage scale, meaning that they would all of a sudden be writing a very big check. So unless they thought the thing could keep selling a LOT more units, theyre not about to re-press these titles after the 10,000 unit initial run(s).

Which means... if you like 'em, buy 'em !! Because there won't be any more once theyre sold out. TAS reported that 9,000 of the Mahler 6 had sold as of the end of the summer, but I am not sure if that means sold to the distributor (Delos) or sold through to customers. Probably the former. Still, I thought I would mention it, in case some of you thought you might want to get an SACD player next year and were in no hurry to grab this disc now, thinking you would just wait.

I believe all of the SFO/MTT Mahler discs (2 per year) will be made under the Limited Pressing clause. This may change, who knows. Also, it would be great if the Limited Pressing Clause limit would be increased to 20,000 or even more, but don't hold your breath. The AFM seems bent on preserving a very high Price for their services, ignoring the fact that it is Price x Quantity that = Income!!!!
