I love the post-it note. Some of the very best stuff Mulligan did was with Brubeck (IMO), with or without Paul Desmond. If you want the BEST version of Take Five, look for an album under Brubeck's name called "All Together Again, For The First Time".Mulligan and Desmond are together on this one, and I have never heard either one of them improvising on the level they do on Take Five. Almost a competition between them. (Mulligan wins, but not by much.)
Another favorite Brubeck/Mulligan album is called "Blues Roots". Unlike anything Bruebeck ever did before or after--kind of a blues/funk/swing/honkeytonk theme. Excellent.
