It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

"The Antiphonal Music of Gabrieli". CD and/or SACD by Sony...

...and, I have the CD version (CD was made from an older Columbia Masterworks recording) of what was an historic event. It was the spectacular assemblage together of the three best brass ensembles in America at that time (Philadelphia/Cleveland/Chicago), back in 1969 (I think). Not only was it an historic event, but the music and the technical prowess displayed are as would be expected - SUPERB! Not to be missed if you like brass, and I think this recording is one that everyone should have in their collection of classical works. What I am really wondering about is whether or not the Sony single-layer SACD version that is available offers any real improvement over this CD version? "Older" recordings often are not substantially improved by SACD remastering, so I thought someone here might know by actual comparison. (I have also posted this question on the Hi-Rez forum as well.) If I get no answer here I will probably buy the SACD version and report the results back sometime on these forums, but it would be nice to know beforehand. I love this recording. Try it if you don't already know...
