Home Music Lane

It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

Beth Gibbons and Rustin Man - "Out of Season"

The Portishead singer in a supposedly one-off with Paul Webb (Talk Talk). Certainly touches of Portishead but only in places - only one bit with the "scratchy" vocal sound they liked to indulge in. Sad songs of course, but atmospheric and strangely uplifting as she explores mysteries and isolation. Beautiful recording captures her voice extremely well - quite up front, but clear and open. Very nice indeed. (Go Beat CD)

"Mumtaz Mahal". Taj Mahal and a couple of Indian musicians (N. Ravikiran and V.M. Bhatt) produce this strangely entrancing sound - blues with an Indian flavour. Taj Mahal sings and plays the guitar, while the other dudes play some weird looking guitar-like instruments. (Water Lily SACD)

Heartbreaker" - Ryan Admas. New to me, but I'm moving backwards after getting "Gold" some time ago, and I like this one more. Sparse and grungy at the same time. (Bloodshot Records CD)

"Moonbeams" - Bill Evans. Superbly done. (Analogue Recordings SACD)

Metralla
