Home Music Lane

It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

My guess is the problem is the remaster.

I've got the Mosaic set of the complete sessions on vinyl, and the sound is good to excellent throughout. Have not heard the new Columbia 24 bit release, but if it's anything like what they did to "Kind of Blue" on the 24 bit reissue of a couple years ago, I would expect it to be pretty bad.

The problem on the KOB was not so much "digital sound" (though I do prefer LP) as the horrible remaster. The bass on the LP (and even on the earlier cd) sounds like a large, wooden, stringed instrument. On the 24 bit cd it sounds like a metal garbage can rolling down a hill. I guess maybe they were hoping to attract the boom boom generation...

The Mosaic set of "Silent Way" is well worth it if you love the music. And they do have it on cd also (if you're one of those unfortunates who don't do vinyl).
