...is this book from BackBeat Books, bearing the rather unoriginal and cumbersome title of "Classical Music--The Third Ear--The Essential Listener's Companion." The editor is Alex Morin, a long-time contributor to the American Record Guide. The book attempts to be an American version of the Penguin Record Guide, with a greater emphasis on American and non-European composers and music.I can highly recommend it, and not just least because yours truly was one of the contributors (several of the French baroque composers and an article on the harpsichord).
