Home Music Lane

It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

Re: Classical Recording Guides - Any Recommendations?

There is a magazine called American Record Guide that is dedicated to classical music reviews. They have a feature that is very useful- each issue has an overview of thr various recordings of one composer or a genre(e.g. operettas). This mag is usually at Borders/B&N; also some university libraries have it-incl. years of back-issues.
AS a result of your post I wondered if ARG was on the web. It appears that their reviews are at some website (Findarticle.com?) I typed "American Record Guide" into Google, went to the first site listed, then I typed "Mahler 6" next: there was a set of ARG reviews incl. an overview of Mahler's symphonies dated July 2001. It was the same overview I had seen in the magazine.:)
BTW, it favors serious music-Bach to Stravinsky, no 'crossover' and little experimental/electronic music.
