I recall a series of posts here a long time ago on which of Richter's recordings of Pictures was the best. I prefer the studio recordings to the live recordings as the live version has far too much distracting background noise that obscure the quieter passages. In any case, Ravel's orchestral version is a bastardization of the original. The only recording of the orchestral version that I can stomach is Claudio Abbado's. I also own the Reiner, it sucks.
